Jeremiah Prenn
An Entry
The man looked out
seeing black ribbons for the sky
and told himself it would pass.
"You've seen this before,
posted signs between hills,
darkening. Keep on."
So he filled his ledger again
with securities at five and a quarter percent,
with his favorite shell game.
I found too a blue catch of the light
and a coldness pushed to my finger-ends
as they became the grey rises.
