RUHI JIWAni
Tsunami
I could have run.
I remember this clearly--
that I could have run.
I could have turned my back
on that force of nature.
I could have forgotten poetry--
a wave of mountainous proportions.
I could have been safe.
I could have been happy.
I could have loved,
let go and carried on.
I could have forgotten.
I wanted to forget.
I could have looked
at the clear blue sky
and the clouds passing across it.
I could have surrendered to life,
accepted death
and been immersed in God.
But I looked at you.
I should have run.
I could have run.
I remember this clearly--
that I could have run.
I could have turned my back
on that force of nature.
I could have forgotten poetry--
a wave of mountainous proportions.
I could have been safe.
I could have been happy.
I could have loved,
let go and carried on.
I could have forgotten.
I wanted to forget.
I could have looked
at the clear blue sky
and the clouds passing across it.
I could have surrendered to life,
accepted death
and been immersed in God.
But I looked at you.
I should have run.
